Three members of the group were at Center Parcs today to help the rangers check the bat boxes which are installed throughout the holiday village.  There are over 250 boxes of many types installed throughout the holiday village and we managed to get through just over 100 of them today.  Leisler’s bat is a bit of a speciality in this part of the county and we found several today as well as a few of their larger relative, the noctule bat.  We also recorded several soprano pipistrelles and a single common pipistrelle.

The highlight of the day was finding seven male brown long-eared bats in a Schwegler 2F box which was on the balcony of one of the lodges.  We rarely come across this species during any of our box surveys here or elsewhere in the county so this was a really good find.  The fact that they were all males is also interesting but we have no idea if this is significant or not but we will update this post when we find out.
